Rehabilitation Center for Wildlife (binnenkort in het Nederlands) Because the lost of natural habitat, hunting, poachingor illegal trade animalsin theAmazon regionare threatened. Often parent-animals are hunted and orphans are left behind. Animals conviscated from illegal trade are sent to zoo's or refuges. In May 2009 the Amazon Fund will start with the establishment of a wildlife rehab near Rurrenabaque in Bolivia. Our objective is to reintroducewildlife into their natural habitat. We will focus on developing reintroduction programs and create awareness about the relations between the animals and their habitat.
In the development of the project we will cooperate with local and international organizations. And we hopethat volunteers will help us to build, constructor work with the animals.
You are welcome at our fantastic location along Rio Beni near Rurrenabaque to have a look, or to spent a few weeks volunteering.
Not all animals are can be rehabilitated. It depends on history, age and species. Therefore we will cooperate with existing wildlife refuges it the area.
Reintroduction Not only orphans or conviscated animals have our attention. In the Madidi area a lot of animals have been hunted in the past. Almost to regional extinction. Together with the indigenous people we want to strengthen the population of several species.
Environmental EducationCenter This wildlife rehab is part of an initiative to collect and provide environmental awareness in the Rurrenabaque area. Beside the wildlife rehab we are developing more projects in this area:
Providing potable water systems to villages near Tumupasa and Rio Quiquibey and establishing a water management center
