Project environmental awareness progresses
In June representatives of the Amazon Fund visited the Bolivian town Rurrenabaque on the edge of the Amazon, surrounded by two beautiful nature reserves, Madidi National Park and Biosphere Pilón Lajas. As part of a new project to promote environmental awareness there, Amazon Fund met with partner organization San Miguel del Bala, the schools and local authorities. The results of the visit are a collaboration contract and licensing of the local government. Interviews reveal that there is much need for environmental awareness among the local population, especially in the schools. We are currently working on a pilot phase. >>

Drinking water project expands
In December 2010 we finished our first drinking water project in the Bolivian Amazon successfully. The remote village of San Luis Grande, at the upper river Quiquibey in the Biosphere Reserve and Communal Lands Pilón Lajas, now has a clean drinking water system. In the past, the indigenous people simply drank from the river. Because of pollution upstream, by gold mining or waste, diseases and sometimes death where the result. Now there are plans to provide several villages in Pilón Lajas with sanitation and clean drinking water. >>

Rio Azul 2011: investment in clean oil
A beautiful rainforest region in Peru has caught the attention of the western oil industry. Not so long ago this would have meant environmental destruction & the end of the culture of the indigenous people of the area. Nowadays such a disastrous outcome can be prevented legally. Oil extraction can be combined with respect for nature and people. It takes your financial support to ensure that if oil extraction is done, it is done according to the wishes of the indigenous people & that all legal procedures are followed. >>
